Wacky Wednesday – Windy Wednesday

Breast Cancer isn’t really very funny. Parenthood, however, I will admit can be really really funny. And I do try to laugh at myself as often as possible. When you combine That Girl, That Guy, and My Girls, you get a pretty Wacky life. When I was a child, probably when I was learning to read, one of my favorite books was “Wacky Wednesday” by Dr. Seuss. Since we constantly talk about how wacky my oldest is, some Wednesdays I will be sharing what I think are pretty Wacky stories, quotes, and silliness from our lives. Enjoy!

A few weeks ago, my girls and I were waiting for my mom to come up so we could go run a few errands. She was a little later getting to our house since she had to detour, because a car had run into a small store near their home. Luckily, from what she has heard, no one was hurt. Off we went to run errands in my car with my brand new tire. I had recently had a tire blow out spontaneously with both my girls in the car. Luckily we were not too far from a dealership, and I was able to get in there and super luckily they had a rental available and helped me out immediately! So you could say there were random car mishaps happening around us and they always say these types of things happen in threes. We should have been expecting it. Especially on a gray drizzly windy day!

Now that things are going better and I am more physically able, That Little Girl and I spend some time together just us. We try to do a couple hours each weekend, but we don’t always have it. We just do our best to line it up with That Baby’s nap so that That Guy can be doing something here at the house as well. Needless to say, it takes some coordination to make sure we hti all those goals. I am happy to say it has been really good for our relationship getting back to “the old days” as she likes to call it.

Wacky Wednesday – Frankly My Dear

Since this blog sat on my to do list for a while as I was busy living this life and journey, I’ve started out writing about the past. Most of it is pretty ugly. Seuss. Since we constantly talk about how wacky my oldest is, my Wednesday posts will be sharing what I think are pretty Wacky stories, quotes, and silliness from our lives. Enjoy!

That Family had a busy evening recently. One of those nights when, after a busy day with work, doctor appointments, errands, school, and swim lessons, My Girls and I run in the door as That Guy is running out. With baths out of the way before he left, I only had dinner and bedtime before I could eat dinner myself and get some things done.

In the last year, That Little Girl has become a bed time procrastinator and total manipulator. We have not had a whole lot of room to negotiate with her shenanigans and sometimes it is easier to go along with her whims of make believe stories after a bunch of books and then snuggle time and water and whatever else she dreams up than to try to bring her back from total tantrum if we should decide to deny a tactic. And then there were the random nightmares that went on for months over the last year. We have been making progress though at bedtime and the nightmares have stopped. Then there are the nights where you think she is long asleep a couple hours ago and next thing you know she pops into the living room wide awake asking, “Hey Mama! Whatcha doing?”

Wacky Wednesday – Those Golden Arches

I’m That Mom who has never let her daughter eat McDonald’s*. To be fair, she had never asked. I love love love me some delicious salty freshly made McDonald’s fries. They seriously are my comfort food, but I indulge only a few times a year at this point. Even with the stomach issues chemo unleashed (and those delicious fries were legitimately the only thing that fixed it) I resisted sending That Guy out to the “good one” until the situation was dire. Point being, I never wanted That Little Girl (since she was the only girl I had at the time) having such an emotional and physical comfort in such an unhealthy food, or something like that. Plus, it helps that she doesn’t like hamburgers, chicken nuggets, or, usually, french fries. It is not like my great resolution made before I even became pregnant had ever been challenged. Until it was.

*Disclaimer: That Little Girl did once have a few sips of a Shamrock Shake, but let’s be honest, that is totally not the same thing as eating there.

We live in an area where it snows. For most people, you drive when you have to, and you just do it carefully until it becomes unsafe to go out. This is That Guy’s category. Then there are people who get super anxious about it, but do it anyway. I’m in that category. Then there are people that have huge SUVs with brand new tires and are still freaking out white knuckled and holding their breath with the first 1/4″ on the ground. That’s my mom’s category.

I have debated sharing this story, because I should be mortified. At this point though, I’m fairly certain the number of people who have seen “my girls” (not my daughters, the other ones) is in a range that requires a comma to keep count. Basically, I am not mortified by it. Embarrassed I’m so oblivious, but not embarrassed by what others saw. And if you are related to me (cough, dad, cough) you might want to just skip this one. So here it goes…

I believe I have mentioned before that while she is handling the world flipping upside down year as well as can be expected, That Little Girl has acted out and had a lot of questions. We answer her as best as we can in a way that is age appropriate, but sometimes she just is a preschooler and throws fits, doesn’t answer, and acts like she is a teenager. So there’s the honesty.

The last day of my chemotherapy treatments, That Little Girl was pretty amazing. And I was pretty tired that afternoon. She was playing alone in her room during quiet time and made quite possibly her biggest mess to date. Silently.

I think I’ve mentioned that I have lost my eyelashes and eyebrows at this point. I recently forgot to add my eyebrows on before going out for the day and pretty sure I was raising some eyebrows. I could not for the life of me figure out why one woman I met was asking so many questions and looking at me funny. I was all made up without eyelashes or eyebrows. Whoops! That Guy and I giggled about it when we got home since I didn’t notice until then. I had looked in the mirror but had sunglasses on and never even noticed.
