Wacky Wednesday – Creeper

Breast Cancer isn’t really very funny. Parenthood, however, I will admit can be really really funny. And I do try to laugh at myself as often as possible. When you combine That Girl, That Guy, and My Girls, you get a pretty Wacky life. When I was a child, probably when I was learning to read, one of my favorite books was “Wacky Wednesday” by Dr. Seuss. Since we constantly talk about how wacky my oldest is, some Wednesdays I will be sharing what I think are pretty Wacky stories, quotes, and silliness from our lives. Enjoy!

In the last year, That Little Girl has become a bed time procrastinator and total manipulator. We have not had a whole lot of room to negotiate with her shenanigans and sometimes it is easier to go along with her whims of make believe stories after a bunch of books and then snuggle time and water and whatever else she dreams up than to try to bring her back from total tantrum if we should decide to deny a tactic. And then there were the random nightmares that went on for months over the last year. We have been making progress though at bedtime and the nightmares have stopped. Then there are the nights where you think she is long asleep a couple hours ago and next thing you know she pops into the living room wide awake asking, “Hey Mama! Whatcha doing?”

Not So Fast

It seems like since Christmas things have really been going very fast. So many things have happened in our little family! We started off the year with the good news of my surgery results, but the doctor appointments did not stop for me. I still have the Herceptin infusions every few weeks, I had a post-surgical issue that required a follow up appointment, there was an appointment to meet the radiation oncologist and another to get me set up for radiation, then starting radiation daily, physical therapy, follow up dermatology appointment from the rash I had, and other non-cancer related appointments. Add in appointments for the rest of the family and you can imagine why we include our doctors on our Christmas card list!

Wacky Wednesday – Those Golden Arches

I’m That Mom who has never let her daughter eat McDonald’s*. To be fair, she had never asked. I love love love me some delicious salty freshly made McDonald’s fries. They seriously are my comfort food, but I indulge only a few times a year at this point. Even with the stomach issues chemo unleashed (and those delicious fries were legitimately the only thing that fixed it) I resisted sending That Guy out to the “good one” until the situation was dire. Point being, I never wanted That Little Girl (since she was the only girl I had at the time) having such an emotional and physical comfort in such an unhealthy food, or something like that. Plus, it helps that she doesn’t like hamburgers, chicken nuggets, or, usually, french fries. It is not like my great resolution made before I even became pregnant had ever been challenged. Until it was.

*Disclaimer: That Little Girl did once have a few sips of a Shamrock Shake, but let’s be honest, that is totally not the same thing as eating there.

Wacky Wednesday – 1, 2, 3, Magic!

I believe I have mentioned before that while she is handling the world flipping upside down year as well as can be expected, That Little Girl has acted out and had a lot of questions. We answer her as best as we can in a way that is age appropriate, but sometimes she just is a preschooler and throws fits, doesn’t answer, and acts like she is a teenager. So there’s the honesty.

All These Holiday Firsts and Traditions

It has been a fairly busy few weeks in our house, as I am sure it has been in yours! In the midst of all the holiday related magical kid moments, and some less than magical tantrums, we are still having those every day baby firsts and preschooler big moments. Since I am coming out of the chemotherapy treatment fog, I am feeling a bit better and closer to myself (with the exception of my memory!) and it could not be better timing!

The last day of my chemotherapy treatments, That Little Girl was pretty amazing. And I was pretty tired that afternoon. She was playing alone in her room during quiet time and made quite possibly her biggest mess to date. Silently.

Wacky Wednesday – A Bit of a Picker Upper

I’m not sure how other people do it day to day. Sometimes my house looks like a preschool sized tornado just went through. Then when we have anyone coming over we really pick up and clean. Any given day though it is like damage control to just keep toys in their place and even in the right room, let alone dust, vacuum, and deep cleaning every single room. It’s like a spot cleaning and picking up situation more often than not with the real cleaning saved for special events like friends and family. So you could say, I am a bit of a Picker Upper. Moral of the story, dear friends: come visit more often so my house is cleaner and nicer.

Wacky Wednesday – Odds and Ends

Since this blog sat on my to do list for a while as I was busy living this life and journey, I’ve started out writing about the past. Most of it is pretty ugly. Seuss. Since we constantly talk about how wacky my oldest is, my Wednesday posts will be sharing what I think are pretty Wacky stories, quotes, and silliness from our lives. Enjoy!

We had a pretty jam packed day recently. It seems That Little Girl may have inherited my mother and I’s tendency to start getting really silly when she starts to get tired. By late afternoon, she was really getting crazy. These are just a couple of quotes from about a thirty minute span that afternoon. To know her is to love her and if you do know her you will understand just how she delivered these and it will probably be funnier for those of you who know us in real life. I apologize to the rest of you.

Her First Day

As I mentioned before, we had not decided on a name prior to That Baby’s arrival. It seemed like forever until we could decide for sure.

All Things Pink and Gratitude

So I’ve been debating addressing, commenting on, or just ignoring the Pink-tober hoopla. I mean, pink has always been a favorite color of mine. But we all know that is not what I’m talking about. For whatever reason, this hasn’t been the easiest emotional month for me. September was a rough month for me physically, having spent time in the hospital which was immediately followed by a large portion of my family and help team being sick, so it could be an emotional “hangover” from all that went along with the month that needed to just end. Then my completely loving amazing supportive mom brought me a breast cancer gift bag with absolutely no ill intention, and I figured it out.
